Singapore’s renewable fuel exports to US might be at risk

SINGAPORE’S exports of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel to the US are at risk because of regulatory changes in the importing country.

The city-state hosts the world’s top-producing sustainable aviation fuel refinery by Finnish company Neste, where it has an annual output capacity of one million tonnes. The refinery also churns out renewable diesel and renewable raw materials for polymers and chemicals.

All in, Neste has a total renewable products production capacity of 2.6 million tonnes at the Singapore plant annually.

In 2023, all sustainable aviation fuel imports to the US were exclusively sourced from Neste’s refinery in the Netherlands. But 86 per cent of the imports were supplied by Neste’s refinery in Singapore in 2024 after the plant began production in mid-2023, S&P Global indicated.

“This transition underscores the strategic importance of the Singapore facility, which has doubled Neste’s production capacity in the region,” it noted.
