Pup Mobile is commemorating two years since its founding, reflecting a continued commitment to improving how dog owners navigate daily life and travel. The company was created to support dog owners who need flexible, nearby care options during outings, appointments, and events. Over its first two years, Pup Mobile has focused on developing a service model that blends mobility and thoughtful design, while steadily preparing for operational launch and future expansion.
The company was founded by Dirk Johnson, a St. Petersburg, Florida resident whose professional and personal experiences shaped the concept behind Pup Mobile. After several years in military service early in his life, he went on to spend more than three decades as a truck driver, developing deep expertise in logistics, vehicle operations, and safety management.
Throughout those years, Johnson also traveled extensively with his dog, and those trips repeatedly highlighted a common challenge at landmarks, museums, restaurants, and events where pets couldn’t accompany their owners indoors. “Traveling with a dog changes how you experience a city,” he says. “You start to see how many moments require a choice between caring for your dog and fully participating in what is around you. I wanted to create a way for people to feel comfortable doing both.”
Those experiences became the foundation for Pup Mobile, which launched initially as a mobile application in March 2024. The app, available on the App Store and Google Play, allows users to book services and locate nearby care options. It gradually evolved into a broader operational platform that integrates transportation, temporary lodging, and walking services.
This evolution reflected Johnson’s intention to build something practical and adaptable. Pup Mobile’s model operates on a pay-per-hour basis with a two-hour minimum, supporting predictable staffing and attentive supervision. This structure is intended for dog owners visiting museums, restaurants, beaches, sporting activities, and other attractions where pets may be restricted or where outdoor seating is limited.
As the company approaches its two-year mark in March 2026, several foundational developments are already in place. “We spent a lot of time improving the Pup Mobile app and bringing our different services into one place. We also started talking more with restaurants, hotels, and beach‑area businesses so we could get a clearer sense of what pet‑owning visitors and residents might be looking for,” Johnson shares. Those early conversations highlighted a shared interest in helping people enjoy longer, more flexible outings while keeping their pets nearby and cared for.
Building on this groundwork, February marks an important operational step with the planned deployment of the first Pup Mobile van in downtown St. Petersburg. The vehicle is currently undergoing graphic design and wrapping. The vehicle’s interior features calm blue lighting, soft music, proper air circulation, and insulated kennel partitions designed to support a relaxed atmosphere and straightforward handling. The initial operating zones are expected near the St. Petersburg Pier, high-traffic restaurant corridors, and beach-adjacent areas. The placement strategy focuses on areas where demand naturally concentrates, helping dog owners to access nearby care without altering their plans.
Pup Mobile’s mission is to provide affordable, customer-focused services that support both pets and their owners, particularly those navigating dense urban areas or traveling without local support. “We’ve always seen Pup Mobile as something that could grow thoughtfully over time. Our hope is to become a trusted option for pet transportation and short-term care in more communities across the country, while continuing to shape a model that brings pet services and social impact together in a meaningful way,” Johnson remarks.
Beyond individual pet owners, Pup Mobile aims to generate broader community benefits. The service supports the elderly and individuals with mobility challenges who face transportation barriers, while also contributing to longer dwell times for local restaurants, hotels, and attractions. Employment opportunities for veterans and animal-care professionals further reinforce the company’s social impact goals.
As Pup Mobile grows, it intends to engage with investors and strategic partners interested in supporting expansion. With its first transporter scheduled to be fully operational by the end of February, Pup Mobile views this two-year milestone as a moment of reflection and readiness for the next phase of growth.
