UAE Establishes ‘Modern-Day Noah’s Ark’ in Landmark Biotech Deal with Colossal Biosciences
In a landmark move that underscores the shifting paradigm of global venture capital, the United Arab Emirates has finalized a nine-figure partnership with Colossal Biosciences, the Texas-based leader in synthetic biology. The initiative, unveiled at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, marks the establishment of the Colossal BioVault and World Preservation Lab—a permanent, state-of-the-art facility housed within the Museum of the Future.
This collaboration is more than a conservation effort; it is a sophisticated economic play. As part of Colossal’s Series C expansion, the UAE led an initial $60 million investment, bringing the company’s total capital raised to $615 million. The deal is structured to provide immediate fiscal returns, with a portion of the nine-figure commitment serving as direct revenue for Colossal through the licensing of its proprietary cryogenic and reanimation platforms.
Directed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, the project positions the UAE as the central hub of a burgeoning “Distributed BioVault Network.”
By leveraging advanced robotics, AI-driven monitoring, and automated cryopreservation, the facility will secure the genetic assets of over 10,000 species. In doing so, the UAE is effectively “future-proofing” global biodiversity, creating a scalable backup system for an era where ecological resilience is increasingly linked to national security and economic stability.
“The UAE’s deep commitment to innovation, conservation and technological advancement is truly inspiring,” said Ben Lamm, Co-Founder and CEO of Colossal Biosciences. “Through this visionary partnership, Colossal has the opportunity to expand into a critical region and advance our mission on a global scale. We are losing species at an alarming rate, and the world urgently needs a distributed network of global BioVaults—a true backup plan for life on Earth.
”Today’s biobanking efforts are underfunded, fragmented, and often inaccessible, lacking the collaboration and international support that this crisis demands. Thanks to the visionary leadership of the UAE, Colossal is now creating the world’s first Colossal BioVault: an unprecedented global resource, a modern-day Noah’s Ark for protecting and restoring life on our planet. We are excited to build on this relationship and pioneering bold new solutions to safeguard biodiversity for generations to come.”

Beyond the laboratory, the initiative serves as a high-value educational asset. By placing the BioVault on display at the Museum of the Future, the UAE is investing in “Human Capital.” The lab offers an immersive, hands-on experience where the next generation can engage with real-world scientific processes. This transparency turns a complex biotech facility into a
classroom, inspiring young people to pursue careers in science and empowering them as “citizen scientists.”
By fostering this early interest in high-tech conservation, the UAE ensures a steady pipeline of homegrown talent to lead its environmental and tech sectors.
As nearly half of the Earth’s species face potential extinction by 2050, the Colossal-UAE partnership offers a pro-growth model for a sustainable future. This project shows us that the marriage of sovereign wealth and cutting-edge synthetic biology can create a “fail-safe” for life on Earth, while simultaneously driving technological licensing and global leadership in the green economy.
