A restaurant in Virginia has changed its Sept. 11-themed seafood menu after receiving backlash for naming the dishes after details about the tragedy.

The Clubhouse, located at Aquia Harbour in Stafford, Virginia, features menu specials throughout the week.

On Tuesday, the restaurant began receiving backlash after the manager, George White, shared a Facebook post of the “Patriot Day 2022” menu that would be available on Sunday.

Some of the items on the menu included “Pentagon Pie,” “9-11 Oysters,” “Flight 93 Redirect” crab dip, “First Responder Flatbread,” “Freedom Flounder,” the “Never Forget Sampler,” and “2977 Chowder,” which references the number of people who died as a result of the terrorist attacks.

White immediately faced backlash for posting the controversial menu ahead of the upcoming weekend, which marks the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Following intense criticism, the post was taken down, and White apologized for the Sept. 11-themed menu.

“I apologize for those I offended with the 9/11 seafood Sunday post. My intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago,” White wrote. “To honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day. We will have a new theme tomorrow.”

On Wednesday, the restaurant shared a post of a football-themed menu that would be available on Sunday instead.

The items feature new names for the dishes, including “Offense Oysters,” “Hot Defense” crab dip, “Field Gold Flatbread,” “Fumble Flounder,” the “Tailgate Party” sampler, and “Champs Chowder.”

The theme for the menu was also changed to “Seafood Sunday.”
