Israel said it thwarted a Hamas incursion near Gaza Tuesday, a day after two elderly women hostages were released by the terror group.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Hamas militants were attempting to infiltrate southern Israel through the sea and were discovered in a tunnel on the Gaza coast when their attempts were thwarted.

“The tunnel was struck, in addition to a weapons warehouse used by the terrorists in Gaza,” the IDF said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

The U.S. and other Western allies have pledged continued support for Israel in its fight to defend itself from Hamas. French President Emmanuel Macron was in Tel Aviv Monday for a solidarity visit.
