In the upcoming 81st Golden Globe Awards, Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” and Cillian Murphy’s “Oppenheimer” take the lead with nine and eight nominations respectively. “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things” follow closely with seven nominations each.
Notable acting nominees include Emma Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, as reported by bbc.com. Meanwhile, in the television category, “Succession” emerges on top with a total of nine nominations, securing a spot for the best TV drama series.
Other nominated TV shows include “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Diplomat,” “The Morning Show,” and “The Crown.” South Korean film “Past Lives” shines as the most nominated non-English language film, securing five nominations.
“Barbie” racks up nine nominations, featuring Margot Robbie for best actress in a musical or comedy, Ryan Gosling for best supporting actor, and Greta Gerwig for best director. Notably, three of the nominations are for best original song, with tracks by Dua Lipa, Ryan Gosling, and Billie Eilish.
Meanwhile, “Oppenheimer” scores nominations for cinematic and box office achievement, as well as best original score. Emily Blunt earns recognition for her supporting role in the film, while Cillian Murphy competes for best actor in a drama for his portrayal in the biographical movie about J Robert Oppenheimer.
As the event approaches on January 7th in Los Angeles, concerns over the ceremony’s airing were resolved after CBS struck a deal to broadcast the Globes, which will also stream on Paramount+. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), behind the Golden Globes, faced controversies due to alleged corruption and lack of diversity. However, recent changes saw an increase in membership to 300, aiming for more diversity.
While hosts for the 2024 Globes remain unannounced, the ceremony has a reputation for selecting sharp-tongued hosts known for their cutting humor aimed at the attending A-listers.
