‘Super Sized Salon’ Star Jamie Lopez Dies At 37

Jamie Lopez, who appeared in the first season of “Super Sized Salon,” has died at the age of 37. Lopez was also the founder of Babydoll Beauty Couture, which claimed to be the world’s first plus-size salon.

The official Instagram page of Babydoll Beauty Couture broke the news about Lopez’s death in a statement Monday. The post featured a series of photos, including a close-up of Lopez as well as snaps of her hanging out with friends and on the sets of “Super Sized Salon.”

“On behalf of the Babydoll Beauty Couture team, we regretfully announce, with great pain, the passing of The Founder & Owner of Babydoll Beauty Couture, The Legendary Jamie Lopez,” the statement read. “We ask, on behalf of the Babydoll family, that you allow us time to process this tremendous loss.”

The post also mentioned that further details and arrangements would be announced soon. It added, “We have suffered an extraordinary loss and appreciate the time and space to grieve in peace. Please keep our Babydoll family & team lifted in your hearts and prayers.”

The statement concluded by thanking the staff and crew members of the entertainment company, Matador Content and WE tv network, for their “continuous support in this difficult time.”

Musical artist Lardi B reacted to the tragic news in the comments section, noting, “WHAT!?? Noooo! This breaks my heart! Rest Easy Momma!”

Meanwhile, drag performer Delta Work wrote, “Nothing but love.”

Lopez was hospitalized in Las Vegas due to heart complications, and she died over the weekend, TMZ reported.

“Super Sized Salon” Season 1 aired in July. It revolved around Lopez who started her own salon despite being 846 pounds and confined to her bed because of her weight. The series also showed her weight loss journey, during which she successfully lost 400 pounds and was able to walk inside her salon for the first time.

The show also featured staff members in the salon as well as its customers. The final episode of the first season aired on Sept. 9, and the network was going to start filming the second season.

Babydoll Beauty Couture was founded in 2017. Explaining why she started a plus-size salon, Lopez previously said, “People just don’t like fat people, they treat us horribly.”

“They want to make us feel like we’re unwelcome or feel like we don’t belong here,” she added
