  • The plane had 2 people on board
  • The plane’s passengers received medical attention at the crash site

A single-engine plane crash left two people seriously injured shortly after the aircraft took off from an airport in Hawaii.

The crash did not affect other flights and remains under investigation.

The Beechcraft BE77 took off from the Lihue Airport on Kauai Island on Thursday around noon, the Federal Aviation Administration said. There were two people on board the aircraft, according to AP News.

The plane crashed shortly after takeoff about 75 to 100 feet away from the Lihue Airport property, the state Department of Transportation said. First responders arrived at the scene around 12:10 p.m.

“Multiple agencies responded to an aircraft crash near the Līhu’e Airport in Līhu’e on Thursday,” read a statement posted on the County of Kaua’i Facebook page.

“According to a preliminary report, shortly before 12:10 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the Līhu’e Airport in Līhu’e after receiving reports of an aircraft crash in the area,” the post added.

The Kaua’i Fire Department Līhu’e fire station, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), American Medical Response, and the Kaua’i Police Department were among the agencies that responded to the incident.

The plane’s passengers received medical attention at the crash site and were then transferred to a hospital. They were in serious condition but stable, according to Hawaii News Now.

“Two individuals sustained injuries and were transported to Wilcox Medical Center in stable but serious condition,” the County of Kaua’i stated in the post.

Officials initially urged the public to avoid the area due to the crash.

Commercial flight operations were not impacted, a state Transportation Department spokesperson said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently handling the investigation into the crash.

The incident comes just weeks after a similar incident involving a small plane was reported. The plane crashed at a Southern California airport in Torrance on Nov. 30 and killed two people that were onboard. The pilot tried to land the single-engine Arion Lightning aircraft at the Torrance Municipal Airport, which is also known as the Zamperini Field.

However, the light-sport aircraft plane crashed in a grassy area next to the runway and was found in a majorly destroyed state.
