Five people, including three minors, were found dead in North Carolina in what appears to be a murder-suicide, according to police.
Police responded to a High Point, North Carolina, home at around 7:05 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report for “two people screaming for help,” according to an official press release from the High Point Police Department.
When High Point police officers arrived at the scene, they encountered an adult man and woman pleading for help.
Police had to force entry into the home, and upon entering, they found five people dead, including two adults and three minors. All five were pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to authorities.
“Officers did force entry into the home and went through the home in what we call a protective sweep, to check for victims and anyone in the home. They ended up locating three juveniles that were deceased and two adults that were deceased,” Captain Matt Truitt with the High Point Police Department stated.
Truitt said there were four adults in the house during the incident, and two of them, whom police first encountered, had escaped to find help, WFMY News reported.
Both of the people who ran from the home were not injured. They have been questioned and released by police.
The identities of the deceased have yet to be released. The investigation into the deaths is ongoing.
Authorities said that there is no immediate threat to the community.
One neighbor told WFMY that she and her parents were woken up by the two adults, who rang their doorbell repeatedly, shouting for help. It was here that she decided to call the police.
“I was just like that’s never happened here, and like, for it to just happen in my house especially it’s like, ‘Oh my God, what do I do?’ I just decided to call 911 because I was like I’ll just leave it up to them because I don’t want to put my life on my family’s life at risk,” the unnamed neighbor said.
Police had been to the home four times since 2014, WFDD reported. According to Truitt, at least one of those incidents was related to a domestic disturbance.
“Not enough history to say that pattern of behavior has been developed,” Truitt said. “We have been here a few times over a span of several years, which is not really out of the ordinary, over a several years span.”
Police are urging members of the public with any information about the incident to come forward. Those with leads are asked to call Crime Stoppers of High Point’s anonymous tip line at 336-889-4000.
