The Lifetime Christmas Movies continue with the premiere of “Reindeer Games Homecoming,” starring Sarah Drew and Justin Bruening, on Saturday night.
The film will be a sure treat for those who are fans of “Grey’s Anatomy,” as Drew and Bruening both previously starred on the series as Dr. April Kepner and Matthew Taylor, though this is their first Lifetime movie together. Of course, they both are likely recognizable for other roles as well. Though Bruening hasn’t starred in a Lifetime movie before, some may also recognize him for his roles as Cal Maddox on Netflix‘s “Sweet Magnolias,” as well as his turns in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ films “Swept Up by Christmas” and “Last Vermont Christmas.”
Drew, however, is someone Lifetime fans will be familiar with. She previously starred in the network’s “Christmas Pen Pals” and “Twinkle All The Way,” as well as Hallmark’s “Christmas in Vienna.”
Adding to the fun, Drew’s “Twinkle All the Way” co-star Brian Sills also stars.
So what can fans expect from the film? Plenty of friendly competition, as well as old flames being rekindled.
“MacKenzie Graves (Drew) is a brilliant, competitive, crossword-puzzle-loving biology teacher in Vermont who recently lost her father, beloved fire chief and the heart of the town’s holiday fundraising tradition, ‘The Reindeer Games,” the synopsis reads. “Every year since his death, she competes with her dad’s former team, a group of colorful retired firefighters, to win the Games and keep his tradition alive. This holiday, however, her world is rocked when fading Hollywood star, and Mac’s high school crush, Chase Weston (Bruening) comes home for Christmas to visit his pregnant sister and nephew and is begrudgingly roped into participating in the Games.”
With the chance to compete against Chase super tempting, Mac is determined to win, and things heat up quickly in the competition—as well as between the two, making for a more heated holiday than they both realized was in store.
“When the opportunity to compete against her former megacrush arises, Mac is determined to show him up and win the Kris Kringle Cup at all costs,” the synopsis continues. “As the competition heats up, so does the spark between Mac and Chase, and Chase soon finds himself eager to not only win the games, but also to win her heart as well.”
“Reindeer Games Homecoming” airs Saturday at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
