KEY POINTS
- Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League table
- They are set to next take on Omonia on Thursday in the Europa League
- Marcus Rashford has netted three goals for Man Utd this term
Arsenal have reportedly revived their interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford ahead of the winter window.
Rashford has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping close tabs on his situation at Old Trafford, reported Football Insider.
The Red Devils have the option to extend Rashford’s contract by a year, but the club is yet to trigger the clause. The English forward will be free to talk to other clubs from January. While Manchester United value Rashford at around $57 million, Arsenal could land him for free if the player does not sign an extension in the coming months with the Red Devils.
Arsenal first showed interest in Rashford earlier this year before they secured Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in the summer. The Brazilian forward has already netted five Premier League goals this season as the Gunners continue to be at the top of the table with 21 points, one more than reigning champions Manchester City.
Rashford first joined Manchester United as an academy student in 2005. He rose through the youth ranks before making his senior debut with the side in the 2015-16 season. Over the years, Rashford has finished a season with 20+ goals only twice.
Prior to the 2022-23 campaign, many fans at Old Trafford wouldn’t have been too disappointed to see Rashford leave, but he’s turned the corner under Erik ten Hag. In seven games for Manchester United, Rashford has netted three goals and provided two assists. Out of the three goals, two came in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Rashford’s impressive run has seen Ten Hag push Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench. Out of the seven league games, Ronaldo started only once, while Rashford started in all.
Apart from Arsenal, even Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were interested in signing Rashford. However, Manchester United did not go through with it. In a recent interview, reporters asked Ten Hag about the interest the club received for Rashford in the summer.
Ten Hag replied, “From day one I was very excited to work with Rashford, I already knew the impact he could have and his potential. He brings that potential onto the pitch and I’m really happy with his development.”
Manchester United are set to take on Cypriot club Omonia in their Europa League fixture Thursday. Following this, the Red Devils will travel to Merseyside to face off against Everton on Sunday at Goodison Park.
With 12 points, Manchester United are placed sixth in the 2022-23 Premier League table.
