A bakery in the San Francisco area has drawn national attention for creating a life-sized version of “Star Wars” character Han Solo made completely out of dough.
“Pan Solo” is what Hannalee Pervan and her mother Catherine Pervan named their creation to enter into the annual Downtown Benicia Main Street Scarecrow Contest. They used flour, water and sugar to create two different types of dough and molded the character’s body onto plywood.
“People are just super interested by it, and you see people smelling it and poking it and they’re just like, ‘What is going on?'” Hannalee Pervan told the New York Times on Saturday.
She spoke of when they first put the sculpture on display outside their shop, One House Bakery, in Benicia, California, which is located about 40 miles north of San Francisco,
“They kind of don’t believe you that it’s made out of dough,” Hannalee Pervan added.
The moment the Pervans were trying to capture was when Han Solo was frozen in carbonite in “The Empire Strikes Back.”
They also used a special type of “yeast-less” dough to get the sculpture to form properly and for the dough to stay together.
Local businesses in the town can participate in the scarecrow contest by displaying a scarecrow outside their store and a winner is chosen for the “best scarecrow.”
“Pan Solo” took about a month to create and stands at 6-foot-tall. It remains on display at the bakery.
