[SINGAPORE] The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) board will appoint current deputy chairman Emeritus Professor Tan Thiam Soon as its new chairman from Apr 1. He will succeed Lim Sim Seng, who will be stepping down from the board.
The Ministry of National Development and BCA said in a joint statement on Monday (Mar 17) that Lim guided the organisation through the Covid-19 pandemic and oversaw the launch of the refreshed Built Environment Industry Transformation Map in 2022.
He also provided guidance to the organisation in the recent industry branding efforts, which led to the launch of a public campaign to highlight the contributions of the sector in building Singapore.
Tan, who will take over Lim, is an institute professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). He was formerly president of SIT from 2013 to 2021.
BCA’s current board member Max Loh Khum Whai will take over Tan as the board’s deputy chairman. Loh is a chartered accountant and chairman of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore.
The board will welcome three new members on Apr 1. Tan Yoong Heng is Singapore country leader and a member of the Australasia region board at building consultancy Arup; John Lim is chairman at JL Family Office, as well as co-founder and former group CEO of ARA Asset Management; and Fereen Liew is the Ministry of Manpower’s divisional director for income security policy.
Along with Lim, two members of the board will be stepping down. Wong Heang Fine, chairman of Asia Infrastructure Solutions; and Jasmin Lau, the Ministry of Health’s deputy secretary for policy, will end their term on Mar 31.
Nine current board members will be re-appointed. All appointments are for a two-year term, starting from Apr 1. Following the appointment changes, the board will comprise 14 members.
