Cardi B recalled the aftermath of former Migos member Takeoff’s death, revealing that her husband Offset went hysterical and was “screaming, throwing things, and throwing up” after he found out.
During the premiere episode of Revolt’s “The Jason Lee Show” podcast on Tuesday, the 30-year-old “WAP” singer opened up about how she and the 31-year-old “Bad and Boujee” singer dealt with the grief of losing the late rapper and revealed how her husband reacted when he first learned about the fatal shooting on Nov. 1.
“We just fell asleep, and out of nowhere, Offset’s phone kept ringing, my phone kept ringing,” Cardi — whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar — told host Jason Lee.
At the time, the couple was supposed to attend a Halloween party in New York but opted to stay home after their 4-year-old daughter Kulture threw up on Cardi’s costume.
“Offset picked up the phone, and he [was] just like, ‘No,’ and he [was] screaming and screaming. I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ and he’s like, ‘Takeoff is dead,'” she recalled.
She continued, “I smacked him, and I said, ‘Don’t say that. Like, don’t say that!’ And then he [was] just screaming and just throwing things, throwing up, running all over, and I was so scared. I was just crying so much. It was terrible.”
Cardi noted that Takeoff’s death had a huge impact on the couple since it became “such a sensitive time” in their home, adding that she and Offset found “any little bad thing” to be severely “triggering.”
Takeoff, born Kirshnik Khari Ball, was part of the American hip-hop group Migos, along with his cousin Quavo and Offset, before he was shot and killed outside the 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston after a private party.
Houston authorities said that the shooting erupted from an argument over a “lucrative dice game,” in which the rapper was not involved. They believed that Takeoff was only an “innocent bystander” since he was also unarmed.
In early December, Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was arrested and charged with the murder of the late Migos member a month after the fatal shooting, Rolling Stone reported.
The outlet said that a search warrant affidavit indicated that among all the individuals seen discharging weapons in the reviewed video evidence, the accused was the “only one” whose position matched the angle at which Takeoff was “struck” before falling to the ground.
A report from the Harris County Medical Examiner, obtained by the outlet, ruled that the rapper’s death was caused by “penetrating gunshot wounds to both his head and torso.”
Clark has since been released from Harris County jail early this month after paying a $1 million bond.
