His Start in the High-Stakes World of Private Equity
After graduating in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Chaudhary began his career at McKinsey & Company, advising corporations across sectors on operations, risk, and performance improvement. The experience provided a cross-industry vantage point on how strategic choices and capital deployment shape enterprise performance, setting the stage for his move into private equity, where analytical precision meets execution.
At Advent International, Chaudhary joined a niche team responsible for $300–500 million buyout investments across industries. He played a key role in the firm’s acquisition of a major consumer business, leading commercial due diligence and helping shape the post-acquisition plan that created lasting value.
He later built on that experience at Apax Partners, where he helped shape the firm’s healthcare investment strategy in Asia and evaluated opportunities across sectors and deal sizes. He also contributed to public-market evaluations for Apax’s listed fund, broadening his scope across asset classes.
From Deals to Data: The Move to Global Investing
After earning his MBA from The Wharton School with a dual focus on finance and advanced analytics, Rohit Chaudhary transitioned to global public-equity investing, building on a foundation of data-driven fundamental research.
He joined Viking Global Investors in New York, a leading hedge fund managing over $50 billion, where he focused on identifying and investing in consumer equities globally. At Viking, he developed investment themes and analyzed market trends to deliver returns across the firm’s portfolio. Collaborating with data scientists and engineers, he helped institutionalize research frameworks that enhanced the firm’s ability to extract actionable insights more quickly and reliably.
He was later recruited by Balyasny Asset Management to expand the firm’s fundamental long-short strategy in Asia, based out of its Singapore office. In this role, Chaudhary played a key role in establishing a new franchise from the ground up: defining investment strategy, architecting a research and risk framework, and deploying capital across the consumer, technology, and industrial sectors. Beyond portfolio management, he also designed and implemented multiple systems and tools to ensure that decision-making remained structured and consistent.
These experiences instilled in Chaudhary a belief that durable results emerge from structured thinking amid uncertainty. His approach blends market intuition with a builder’s discipline—ensuring that ideas are tested, decisions are traceable, and execution remains methodical even when markets are anything but.
