The 2022 College Football Playoff field is finally set. No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 TCU and No. 4 Ohio State make up the bracket for this year’s postseason matchups.
Both College Football Playoff semifinal games are scheduled for New Year’s Eve. Michigan and TCU will face off in the Fiesta Bowl at Glendale, Ariz.’s State Farm Stadium at 4 p.m. ET. Georgia and Ohio State will do battle from Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the Peach Bowl at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 31.
The two winning teams will meet on Monday, Jan. 9 in the CFP National Championship Game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Georgia and Michigan were the easy choices for the first two teams in the CFP bracket. After winning last year’s national championship, Georgia went undefeated in the sport’s best conference. Michigan also posted a perfect 13-0 record on the way to winning the Big Ten Championship.
When Michigan routed Ohio State 45-23 in the final game of the regular season, it seemed that the Wolverines might’ve knocked the Buckeyes out of the playoff field. Ohio State found its way into the final CFP bracket because No. 10 USC failed to win the Pac-12 Championship Game.
Unlike the two-loss Trojans, TCU was able to survive a loss in the conference title game. Before Kansas State defeated TCU 31-28 in overtime in the Big 12 Championship Game, the Horned Frogs had a 12-0 record. TCU beat Kansas State in the regular season.
No. 5 Alabama just missed the cut for the CFP. The Crimson Tide lost two games and failed to reach the SEC Championship Game.
Georgia’s only loss in the last two years came against Alabama in the 2021 SEC Championship Game. Georgia defeated LSU 50-30 to clinch this year’s conference title. The Bulldogs have won eight straight games by double digits with the country’s No. 2 scoring defense.
Michigan is fifth in points allowed per game. The Bulldogs beat the Wolverines 34-11 in last year’s CFP semifinal.
