Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter and keyboardist Christine McVie has died at age 79.
A statement from the signer’s family on Facebook confirmed she passed away peacefully at a hospital following a short illness on Wednesday morning.
“She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie,” the post read.
Due to her success as a member of the popular band, McVie was reportedly worth a staggering $105 million at the time of her death, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
With the group, McVie earned fivegold, one platinum, seven multi-platinum and one multi-diamond album certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America. Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album, “Rumours” was one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling more than 40 million copies worldwide. In 1998, McVie was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside eight other members of the band.
She was born Christine Anne Perfect on July 12, 1943, in the Lake District of England. The singer joined the band and married John McVie, Fleetwood Mac’s bassist, in 1971. The couple divorced in 1978 but continued to perform and tour together.
McVie was a member of the band from 1971-1998, writing some of their most popular songs including “Say You Love Me,” “You Make Lovin’ Fun,” and “Don’t Stop.” She took a brief hiatus from the group, reuniting in 2014.
McVie’s 2021 deal to sell assets from her 115-song catalog to music company Hipgnosis, as well as her four decades touring with the band and massive success as a singer-songwriter all contributed to her massive net worth.
Her death is being mourned by her bandmates, who posted a tribute on Twitter after the news broke.
