BTS leader RM has made history on two Billboard charts with his first solo album “Indigo,” which was released in December.
The 28-year-old K-pop superstar is now the first Korean male soloist to spend four weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. The 10-track album is at No. 71 in the week ending on Jan. 14.
RM, whose real name is Kim Namjoon, has also become the second Korean soloist to have an album on the Billboard 200 for four weeks. TWICE member Nayeon’s solo album, “Im Nayeon,” spent five weeks on the chart last year.
“Indigo” also claimed the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s World Albums chart and also stayed at No. 3 on the Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales charts this week.
In addition, the “Still Life” singer has become the first Korean male soloist to spend five weeks on the Artist 100 chart. He is at No. 71 on the chart this week – just one notch below David Guetta and a spot higher than Led Zeppelin. The weekly chart combines an artist’s success across the Hot 100 chart, the Billboard 200 album chart and the Social 50 chart. It measures an artist’s activity through album and track sales, radio airplay and streaming data.
RM last month said he felt “relieved” after releasing “Indigo” and that it was a different experience.
“I feel relieved,” the “Hectic” singer told Hypebeast. “As an artist, I think there is a tremendous difference between having a studio album and having only singles and doing features. It feels like I’ve finally done my homework that I’ve been putting off for a long time. It also feels like an initial public offering of the RM brand. I’m very proud that I got to leave behind a record of my trials and tribulations at the end of my 20s.”
RM also revealed he started working on new materials for his next musical project.
