Jason Momoa Cuts Hair Short For A Cause: ‘Doing It For Single-Use Plastics’ [Watch]

Jason Momoa has given up his signature long hair for a very important cause. The 43-year-old actor took to Instagram Tuesday to share a video of himself having a haircut as he spoke to the camera on why people should ditch single-use plastics.

“Aloha, everyone,” he said in the clip before asking his hairstylist, “Hand me those braids.”

Once he got his cut braids, he flaunted them in front of the camera while saying, “So, I’m shaving off the hair. Oooh man, I’ve never even felt the wind right there.”

“Doing it for single-use plastics. I’m tired of these plastic bottles. We gotta stop. Plastic forks and all that sh-t, it just goes into our land, goes into our ocean,” he explained.

“I’m here in Hawaii right now and just seeing things in our ocean, it’s just so sad. So please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastic in your life, help me. Plastic bottles are ridiculous,” Momoa added.

The “Aquaman” star also talked about his advocacy in the caption of his video. “Heres to new beginnings let’s spread the aloha. Be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas. Plastic bottles, plastic bags, packaging, utensils all of it,” he wrote.

His post caught the attention of many people, including fellow celebrities who took the time to laud him in the comments section for sharing an important message.

One of them was Canadian actor Aleks Paunovic, who wrote, “Always with the best message my man.”

“Dark Winds” star Kiowa Gordon also showed support by dropping a heart emoji.

Meanwhile, National Geographic Photographer Keith Ladzinski noted, “Yooooo, big move for a great cause!”

The official handle of Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, a nonprofit organization, thanked and commended Momoa as well. “Mahalo for advocating to create a better world for future generations to come. Spreading aloha not just to the people around us but the places that provide for us,” it said.

The personal care and beauty industry has been under fire for many years for its reliance on plastic packaging. The industry generates over 120 billion units of packaging annually, the Plastic Pollution Coalition reported, adding that most of them “were not truly recyclable.”

Amid the ongoing plastic problem, some brands have discontinued the use of plastic packaging altogether. Many individuals have also joined the fight against plastic pollution by opting for more sustainable products and making more informed lifestyle choices.
