Sen. John Fetterman slammed President Donald Trump for saying that Democratic lawmakers who urged the military to refuse obeying certain orders were engaging in “seditious behavior” that is “punishable by death.”

“I strongly reject this dangerous rhetoric. Do not threaten Members of Congress. Republican or Democrat. It’s deeply wrong with no exceptions—ever,” Fetterman said in a social media publication.

Trump made the claim on Thursday after a group of Democratic lawmakers with military or intelligence service backgrounds urged the military to refuse unlawful orders. They didn’t specify which orders they were referring to, but the administration has faced scrutiny over its strikes against alleged drug vessels in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, which have so far killed more than 80 people. They accused the administration of “pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens.”

“Right now, the threats to our constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home,” they said. “You can refuse illegal orders.”

In a social media post, Trump said “this is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???” In another post he claimed they had engaged in “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

Trump also reposted a message from a user who urged him to “hang” the lawmakers, claiming George Washington would have done that.
