There might not be a major upset in NFL Week 4, but a handful of short underdogs have a strong chance to win straight up in key games. Six teams that have at least a share of first place are underdogs this week.
Here are the best upset picks for Week 4. All betting odds come from DraftKings Sportsbook.
Denver Broncos (+100) at Las Vegas Raiders
Nathaniel Hackett has received plenty of criticism for head-scratching decisions through his first three games as Denver’s head coach. Hackett, however, has led the Broncos to a 2-1 record. Meanwhile, Josh McDaniels is 0-3 to start his tenure as the Raiders head coach. The Broncos are slight underdogs in Week 4, even though they are two games ahead of Las Vegas in the AFC West standings.
Russell Wilson has been an early disappointment in Denver. The quarterback has faced two of the top-seven defenses in terms of opponents’ passer rating. Las Vegas has surrendered at least 24 points in each game. The Broncos haven’t given up more than 17 points in any game. Derek Carr doesn’t have a triple-digit passer rating game this season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+125) vs. Kansas City Chiefs
It’s always worth considering betting on Tom Brady when he’s a home underdog. The Buccaneers are coming off a loss in which their offense struggled, but so are the Chiefs. In a matchup that could be viewed as a toss-up, there is value in Tampa Bay as an underdog.
At least one, and likely two, of the three wide receivers Brady was without in Week 3 is returning for Week 4. Mike Evans has served his one-game suspension. Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Julio Jones will probably be back on the field in Week 4. Tampa Bay leads the NFL in scoring defense. The Bucs held Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to nine points when the teams faced off in the Super Bowl two seasons ago.
Los Angeles Rams (+115) at San Francisco 49ers
The odds suggest that the 49ers are just as good as the Rams, but that probably isn’t the case. Los Angeles defeated San Francisco in last season’s NFC Championship game after the Rams finished two games ahead of the 49ers for the division title. Following San Francisco’s 1-2 start, Los Angeles is the favorite to again win the NFC West.
The Rams have gone undefeated since losing in the opener to the Bills, which are the clear Super Bowl favorites. Both 49er losses were to teams with winning records. San Francisco is one of five teams averaging fewer than 16.0 points per game. Things don’t get easier for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with left tackle Trent Williams likely to miss time because of a high ankle sprain.
