The NBA announced Thursday that it will stream French league games of top 2023 draft prospect Victor Wembanyama for free on the league’s app.
Wembanyama is a heralded prospect, standing 7-foot-4 and captivating NBA front offices with his inside-out ability and devastating defensive potential. The 18-year-old prospect drew considerable attention following his American debut this summer in Las Vegas.
Wembanyama plays for the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Betclic ELITE league in France. The French league will be the first non-NBA affiliate to have its games streamed on the NBA app.
The NBA recently revamped its app, integrating social media feeds and betting-centric streams. The league this summer also broadcast pro-am “Drew League” games for the first time.
“We’re labeling like this unicorn thing, everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years, but [Wembanyama’s] more like an alien,” said Los Angeles Lakers forward Lebron James during a press conference prior to the start of the season. “I’ve never seen . . . No one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.”
The 2023 NBA draft is May 16.
