Netflix Drops First Trailer For Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Docuseries [Watch]

The title of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s docuseries has been revealed as Netflix dropped a first-look trailer for the highly anticipated project Thursday.

After months of speculations on what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s docuseries will contain, the trailer for “Harry & Meghan” teased that the project will give a glimpse of the royal couple’s intimate relationship and tumultuous years in the palace.

In the 50-second trailer, docuseries director and two-time Oscar nominee Liz Garbus can be heard asking, “Why did you want to make this documentary?”

“No one knows what’s happening behind closed doors,” Prince Harry responds. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”

After sharing an array of romantic photos of the couple and shots from their time as working members of the royal family, Markle asks: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”

At one point in the clip, Prince Harry and Markle look visibly emotional during an interview, with the duchess wiping away tears.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were also featured in the teaser via a black-and-white photo from the Commonwealth service in 2020.

The six-episode show will include “commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the royal family’s relationship with the press,” according to Netflix’s blurb for the show that was obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

“The series does more than illuminate one couple’s love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other,” the press release stated.

Markle briefly talked about their upcoming docuseries in her interview with Variety. She graced the cover of the magazine last month as one of the honorees of the 2022 class of Variety’s Power of Women for her philanthropic and creative work, including her podcast “Archetypes.”

“It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it,” Markle said. “But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”

Multiple unnamed sources previously told Page Six that Markle and Prince Harry’s first choice was Oscar-nominated director Garrett Bradley, who helmed the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Naomi Osaka” about the young tennis sensation. However, the director allegedly left the project because they couldn’t agree on the tone of the docuseries.

The couple then hired Garbus, who helmed the critically acclaimed “What Happened, Miss Simone?” and “The Farm: Angola, USA.”

The trailer did not provide a release date for the docuseries, only teasing that is “coming soon.”

But “Harry & Meghan” is expected to drop on Netflix on Dec. 8.
