New DOJ Records Claim Epstein Acted as ‘Matchmaker’ for Donald and Melania Trump

Newly unsealed federal investigative records have placed the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein at the centre of the origin story of the American First Family.

The revelation emerged from a cache of Department of Justice (DOJ) materials, specifically an FBI Form 302 detailing an interview conducted on 13 July 2019. Within these documents, a witness provides a proffer of information asserting that Epstein was the primary catalyst for the introduction between Donald Trump and Melania Knauss in the late 1990s.

While public narratives have long attributed their meeting to a 1998 Fashion Week party, these forensic documents suggest a more direct involvement by Epstein in curated social matchmaking.

While the allegation does not accuse either Trump or Melania of wrongdoing, it has reignited uncomfortable questions about Epstein’s proximity to power and the social networks he cultivated.

The Anatomy of the FBI Form 302 Disclosures

The specific document, identified by Bates stamps EFTA00159321 and EFTA00159322, originates from the investigative files compiled following Epstein’s 2019 arrest on sex trafficking charges.

An FBI Form 302 is a formal summary of an interview with a witness or subject, used by federal agents to memorialise testimony that may later be used in criminal proceedings. In this instance, the witness, whose identity remains redacted but is described as a former associate in Manhattan’s modelling and social circles, provided a detailed account of Epstein’s influence on international recruitment.

The witness stated that Epstein often boasted of his ability to ‘place’ women in high-society circles, specifically naming the future First Lady as a prominent example of his social networking.

According to the interview transcript, the witness claimed that Epstein facilitated the meeting as part of his broader effort to maintain leverage and proximity to powerful figures in New York real estate and media. This testimony aligns with the Giuffre v. Maxwell civil litigation, which has seen thousands of pages of previously confidential materials unsealed by court order throughout 2024 and 2025.

Federal prosecutors utilised these interviews to map the extent of Epstein’s ‘loyalty’ network, which frequently involved the exchange of social favours and introductions to foreign models.

The records indicate that Epstein’s involvement in the modelling industry, particularly through his financial ties to agencies like MC2 and his relationship with Jean-Luc Brunel, served as a pipeline for these high-level introductions. These newly publicised documents provide a primary-source link that contradicts the more sanitised versions of the couple’s meeting previously provided to the press.

Direct Testimony and the Model Scouting Pipeline

The DOJ records delve into how Epstein and his associates operated in the New York fashion scene when Melania Knauss arrived in the United States.

Witness testimony in the file describes a system in which Epstein would identify promising talent and ensure they were invited to exclusive events attended by his wealthy benefactors. The proffer interview suggests that the introduction to Donald Trump was not a chance encounter at the Kit Kat Club, but a deliberate move orchestrated by Epstein to further solidify his standing with the real estate mogul.

The financial scale of Epstein’s operations during this era was vast, with investigators noting transactions and overheads exceeding £15.2 million ($20 million) annually to maintain his various properties and social influence.

Documents from the unsealed tranches indicate that Epstein viewed his role as a ‘super-fixer’, a man who could provide both financial counsel and social connections to the global elite. The FBI summary notes that Epstein frequently reminded his associates of his role in the Trump introduction, allegedly viewing the successful union as a testament to his prowess as a power broker.

Look at this—Ghislaine Maxwell given a soft-focus prison interview, recast as Epstein’s “victim.” Propaganda to humanise the fixer of a global paedophile ring. Any bets on a presidential pardon? Furthermore, the records include references to the ‘modelling scout’ culture of the 1990s, where Epstein was known to fund visas and housing for international models. The witness interviewed in 2019 claimed that Epstein’s Manhattan residence served as a ‘clearing house’ for social invitations that eventually led to the 1998 meeting.

While the Trump campaign has previously denied that Epstein played any role in their relationship, the existence of a formal FBI 302 document suggests that federal investigators took the claim seriously enough to document it as part of a sex-trafficking probe.

Legal Implications and Historical Re-evaluation

The release of these records has prompted a significant re-evaluation of the 2008 non-prosecution agreement (NPA) and the subsequent failure to investigate Epstein’s broader social network earlier.

The 2019 DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility report, which criticised the ‘poor judgement’ of prosecutors, was a backdrop to why this specific witness testimony remained buried for years. The unsealing of DataSet 9, which includes the matchmaking allegations, represents a broader push for transparency in the wake of Epstein’s death in federal custody.

As the final tranches of the Epstein files are processed through the federal court system in 2026, the focus has shifted from Epstein’s direct crimes to the systemic protection he enjoyed.

The FBI Form 302 provides a factual, contemporaneous account of how witnesses perceived Epstein’s influence at the highest levels of American power. It serves as a permanent record of the intersection between the fashion industry, high finance, and political power that defined the late 20th century in New York.

The shadows of the Epstein era continue to lengthen as the official record finally catches up with the long-standing whispers of the Manhattan elite.

The White House has dismissed the claim as ‘unfounded and false’, pointing to a DOJ statement warning that the files may contain unverified or fabricated material submitted by members of the public.
