Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh allegedly had a huge fight during the filming of “Don’t Worry Darling,” a report has claimed.
Wilde, 38, has denied that she is in a feud with Pugh, 26, but an anonymous source who reportedly spent “significant time” on the set of their new film claimed to Vulture that the two stars had a “blowout argument” last year. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.
The alleged fight between the actress and the director took place in January 2021, when they were almost done filming the psychological thriller, the insider claimed.
Pugh allegedly grew frustrated with Wilde’s “frequent, unexplained absences,” according to the source. At the time, Wilde had just begun dating Harry Styles, who also stars in the film.
“Olivia and Harry would just disappear,” the source claimed to Vulture.
The breaking point came when the alleged “screaming match” between Wilde and Pugh occurred, the insider claimed.
The source claimed that their alleged feud reached studio heads after filming wrapped. Warner Bros. executive Toby Emmerich reportedly had to play mediator in a “long negotiation process” to ensure Pugh would participate in the film’s promotional activities “in any way” and not jeopardize the potential box office, the insider alleged.
A Warner Bros. spokeswoman told Vulture that Emmerich was traveling and could not comment on the claims.
An anonymous executive with knowledge of the situation claimed to Vulture that Warner Bros. bosses were not impressed with the way Wilde has handled the promotional duties for “Don’t Worry Darling,” specifically the way she has spoken about Shia LaBeouf’s departure from the project in interviews.
“Olivia is either a mad genius who figured out a way to make people more aware of the movie in a way that just drives up the box office or she doesn’t have any self-awareness that she is f—ing up her movie,” another unnamed source close to the production told the outlet.
However, Warner Bros. has denied any conflict between the studio and Wilde.
“We are so proud of the work that Olivia Wilde has done making this incredibly beautiful and entertaining film and look forward to collaborating with her again. The studio is very grateful and appreciative of the tireless support by Olivia in bringing her vision to life from production through release. Any suggestion of conflict between the studio and Olivia is simply not true,” Warner Bros. told Vulture in a statement.
Reps for Wilde and Pugh did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to the outlet.
Rumors of a feud between Wilde and Pugh first surfaced after eagle-eyed fans noticed earlier this year that the latter did not promote their movie on her social media accounts.
Unnamed Hollywood insiders told Page Six that Wilde and Styles’ relationship didn’t sit well with Pugh.
“I can tell you for a fact that Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry,” one insider claimed to the outlet in July, referring to Wilde’s ex, “Ted Lasso” star Jason Sudeikis. “Jason and the kids visited Olivia on set at the beginning a few times, so I think this all made people feel a little uncomfortable.”
When asked about the rumors of a “falling out” between herself and Pugh at “Don’t Worry Darling’s” Venice Film Festival premiere earlier this month, Wilde had nothing but praise for the actress.
“I can’t say enough how honored I am to have her as our lead. She’s amazing in the film,” the director said of Pugh during a press conference.
“As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself,” she continued. “I don’t feel the need to contribute. It’s sufficiently well nourished.”
Pugh missed the press conference because she flew from the “Dune: Part Two” set to Italy and arrived minutes after the event wrapped. The two women later reunited on the red carpet of the film’s premiere.
“Don’t Worry Darling” is currently showing.
