KEY POINTS

  • Rebel Wilson addressed the fatphobia backlash against her on her Instagram Stories
  • Wilson explained that they were experimenting with their limited capsule collection available in limited sizes
  • She made the statement after several criticized her because the collection did not include plus sizes

Rebel Wilson raised eyebrows after her new clothing line didn’t include plus sizes.

Wilson, 42, received intense backlash after announcing her new clothing collection of matching sweatsuits which are only available in XS to XL sizes. Several were unhappy because they felt it was not inclusive for plus-size buyers.

“We are experimenting with this limited capsule collection of only two pieces in limited sizes,” Wilson wrote on her Instagram Stories Tuesday.

Prior to the said post, several called out Wilson, who rose to fame as Fat Amy from “Pitch Perfect,” for allegedly being fatphobia.

“Still sniggering at Rebel Wilson creating a clothing line that doesn’t cater to plus sizing,” content creator and body image advocate Steph tweeted. “Absolutely wild scenes, but not surprising. Former fat people can sometimes end up being the worst when it comes to fatphobia and/or exclusion.”

“Like she was never a plus size!” one commented. Another added, “Everyone loves their body until they start losing weight, then they forget who they were. It’s a shame.”

Many also expressed their disappointment when she promoted the items earlier this month.

“Rebel It’s a little disappointing but the sizes only go up to extra-large come on,” one commented in one of her posts on Instagram. “Where are the plus sizes Rebel? Seriously, if anyone should get it.”

Despite the backlash, some netizens also defended Wilson. For them, she doesn’t deserve the criticisms just because her limited collection doesn’t include plus sizes.

“Idk maybe she understands that being fat isn’t something that should be promoted or celebrated. I mean I size XL is pretty big enough,” one wrote.

“Fatphobia lol. Not a thing. You know not everyone has to be included,” another person added.

“She has XL if you need bigger what you need is a check whit[sic] a doctor,” a third person commented.

Wilson declared 2020 as her “year of health” and she reached her target weight of 75 kilograms before Thanksgiving of the same year. Last year, she reflected on her weight loss journey.

“One of the emotions was that I’m sad I didn’t do it before,” she told People. “Last year, I lost a lot of weight — close to 80 lbs. — and then I’ve maintained it for this year. [So] part of me was like, ‘Well, damn! If I could have done it before, should I have done it?’ And I felt a bit sad about that point.”
