  • Man Utd defeated Spurs 2-0 in the Premier League
  • Fred and Bruno scored for Man Utd

Former Premier League defender Danny Mills has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo, calling him “selfish” and accusing the forward of thinking he is “bigger” than Manchester United.

Mills’ comments came after Ronaldo exited Old Trafford’s tunnel even before the game between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur ended Wednesday. Ronaldo remained an unused substitute as Fred and Bruno Fernandes scored a goal each in the Red Devils’ 2-0 win.

“If Ronaldo has done that, it’s an absolute disgrace. That’s disrespectful to the team, the manager, and the fans. They are winning 2-0 – what complaint can he have? If they were losing 2-0, it wouldn’t be right, but I would sort of understand it. He clearly thinks he’s bigger than the football club… It’s a selfish act after not being involved,” Mills told Soccer Special, according to Sky Sports.

Mills, who played for various English clubs like Leeds United and Manchester City during his soccer career, went on to add that he felt sorry for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United because Ronaldo’s controversial act would take the limelight of the team’s excellent show against Spurs.

“He knows full well that everybody is going to see him walk all the way down the touchline at Old Trafford, it’s not like he can sneak out. I feel sorry for United and Ten Hag because it’s all going to be about Ronaldo instead of an outstanding performance against a top side,” added Mills.

Reacting to Ronaldo’s early exit after the 2-0 win, Ten Hag said he would speak to the veteran forward later as he didn’t want to focus on anything else but Manchester United’s overall impressive performance.

The latest 2-0 win over Spurs recorded Manchester United’s sixth victory of the 2022-23 Premier League season. With 19 points in 10 games, Ten Hag and Co. are placed fifth in the league table but are still eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

In the 10 Premier League games, Ronaldo remained an unused substitute twice, came come off the bench six times and was featured in the starting XI only two times.

In 12 appearances for Manchester United, including two in Europa League, Ronaldo has netted two goals and has assisted one.
