Officials in Los Angeles announced that the death toll in Saturday’s mass shooting has reached 11 after one of the four hospitalized victims died Monday.

Ten people — five women and five men — were pronounced dead at the scene at a dance hall in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services has not identified the latest victim.

Nine people remained injured in the shooting.

The alleged gunman, a 72-year-old Asian male named Huu Can Tran, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after a manhunt. He was found in the white box van he used to drive to a second dance hall, where he was believed to have attempted a second attack.

The gunman opened fire inside Star Dance Studio, a Chinese-owned ballroom dance studio, located less than a block from where a Lunar New Year festival was being held. The event drew more than 100,000 attendees but was canceled shortly after the shooting.

Less than an hour later, the same alleged gunman walked into Lai Lai Ballroom and Studio in nearby Alhambra with the “intent to kill more people,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna told NPR. A man whose family runs the studio managed to disarm the shooter by wrestling the weapon out of his hands.

The massacre was the nation’s fifth mass killing this month and the deadliest attack since May 24, when 21 people were killed in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner identified two of the victims: 65-year-old My Nhan and 63-year-old Lilan Li. The remaining five males and three females, all in their 50s, 60s and 70s, have not yet been identified.

Monterey Park is a city of about 60,000 people and is located about seven miles east of downtown Los Angeles. About two-thirds of its residents are Asian.

The shooting has sent a wave of fear through Asian-American communities and cast a shadow over future gatherings and celebrations.

Footage posted on social media showed injured people on stretchers being taken to ambulances by emergency staff. The alleged gunman was using what authorities said was a magazine-fed assault-style pistol, of which Luna said he was unsure of its legal status in the state.

According to Luna, the gunman was arrested in 1990 for unlawful possession of a firearm.

A motive has yet to be determined in the shootings.

Reports indicate that authorities are examining whether jealousy or a personal dispute was behind the tragedy.

There have been a record 36 mass shootings in the U.S. for the first few weeks of January.
