It provides a framework for both energy regulators to promote cooperation and sharing of regulatory practices on gas and electricity markets

[SINGAPORE] The Republic’s Energy Market Authority, as well as its Australian counterpart, have signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday (Oct 28) to strengthen regulatory exchanges and energy cooperation.

The agreement, which was signed at the Singapore International Energy Week, provides a framework for both energy regulators to promote cooperation and sharing of regulatory practices on gas and electricity markets, said EMA on the same day.

It will also facilitate greater knowledge exchange on low-carbon technologies and deepen cooperation at multilateral platforms in support of Asia-Pacific’s energy transition.

Activities under this partnership include knowledge and experience sharing, training and exchange programmes, as well as dialogues between EMA and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

Puah Kok Keong, chief executive officer of EMA, said that energy regulators are at the heart of the energy transition.

“EMA is delighted to deepen our cooperation with the AER on regulatory best practices and low-carbon energy technologies. This builds on the excellent momentum of our bilateral energy cooperation and the 60th year of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Australia,” he added.

Justin Oliver, deputy chair of AER, said that the regulator is proud to further its partnership with EMA, as well as regulators across Asean.

“Through sharing expertise and experiences, we can strengthen efforts to support energy security and the energy transition across the region,” he added.
