StarHub broadband service restored after outage on Tuesday
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

STARHUB broadband customers experienced an outage which disrupted their access to the Internet just before 8 pm on Tuesday (Aug 20), but the telco announced at 9.15 pm that it expected its broadband and TV+ services to be back online progressively after it successfully “rerouted traffic”.

It recommended that customers reboot their routers if they were still facing connection issues.

In a Facebook post at 7.57 pm, the company said that it was aware that customers in some places were experiencing disruptions to their broadband service, and that it was working to resolve the issue.

The connection problems appeared to affect customers in locations such as Jurong and Pasir Ris.

A customer commented on StarHub’s Facebook page during the outage that switching away from StarHub’s default Domain Name Service (DNS) resolved the connection issue.

Domain Name Services, such as CloudFlare’s 1.1.1.1 service and Google’s public DNS service, are responsible for translating webpage addresses such as Google.com into IP (Internet Protocol) addresses from where Internet content can be loaded.

On outage tracker Downdetector, more than 20,000 reports have been made, with three-quarters of users reporting issues with their landline Internet connection.
