The very early 2022 NFL standings features several surprises. After Week 1, the two teams that met in the Super Bowl and both No. 1 seeds from a year ago find themselves in last place.
The Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams are all tied for last place in their respective divisions. The Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys are the only teams that are stuck at the bottom of their divisions by themselves.
Following their Week 1 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Cowboys are the only NFC East team that has a 0-1 record. The Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Commanders all pulled out victories Sunday. Dallas won the NFC East by three games in the 2021 season, but the hand injury to Dak Prescott could prevent the Cowboys from contending for a second straight divisional crown.
Cincinnati’s bid to repeat as AFC North champions got off to a poor start as the Bengals were upset at home by the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime. Cincinnati missed an extra point at the end of regulation and a field goal in the extra session that would’ve won it. Joe Burrow had five turnovers in the opener. The Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns are all tied atop the AFC North at 1-0.
Green Bay lost a key divisional game to start the 2022 campaign as the Minnesota Vikings beat the Packers 23-7. The Packers and Detroit Lions are looking up at the Vikings and Chicago Bears, both of which are 1-0. The Packers have won three straight NFC North titles. Only the Kansas City Chiefs have a longer streak with six straight division championships.
The Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are tied for first place ahead of their matchup Thursday night. The Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders are tied in last place. The Seattle Seahawks took sole possession of first place in the NFC West by defeating the Broncos in Russell Wilson’s return on “Monday Night Football.” The Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals were all defeated by big margins in Week 1.
The AFC South is the only division with all winless teams. The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are in first place after their Week 1 tie. The Jacksonville Jaguars came up short in Washington. The Titans experienced one of the worst upsets of the opening weekend, losing at home against the Giants.
The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins sit atop the AFC East. The Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints have the very early lead in the NFC South.
