A TikToker got the shock of her life when a slithery intruder joined her in the pool. The woman recounted the horrifying moment when she spotted a 12-foot-long reticulated python in a hotel swimming pool.
Elisabeth Elektra, a musician from England who documents her travel experiences on TikTok, encountered the snake while she was on a holiday in Thailand, News.com.au reported.
In a minute-long video on TikTok, the snake was seen slithering below the water of the neon-lit pool.
“I’m on holiday in Thailand and there is a 12-foot (3.6 meter) snake in the swimming pool,” Elektra shared.
After the hotel staff were alerted about the snake’s presence, they used pool cleaners to scoop it out but the snake resisted by lashing at them.
“The hotel staff moved it to safety, one of them stroked its head as they took it away to reassure it,” the TikToker added.
“My list of countries to visit keeps getting shorter,” one user commented below Elektra’s post. Another user appeared to poke fun at the staff’s efforts to retrieve the snake. “What on earth is that little net meant to do,” the person wrote.
Another user joked that the snake also must be in a vacation mood.
It’s not uncommon for pythons to shelter in urban houses and even swimming pools after their natural habitats are being threatened by massive deforestation. In October 2021, a family in Australia saw a python lurking beside their swimming pool when they were about to take a dip in the water. The family called a snake catcher, who retrieved the snake with his bare hands. The reptile was later released into the wild. A video of the rescue effort was shared online and had gone viral, with people calling the reptile “beautiful.”
Pythons aren’t venomous and not usually aggressive toward humans but they can suffocate a person to death by just wrapping their tail around.
Pythons in Thailand are able to swim and are found in deep oceans. They are highly venomous but they rarely attack humans.
