Tom Brady does not regret un-retiring from the NFL and playing football again.
It’s been speculated for weeks that Brady’s decision to reverse his retirement announcement earlier this year led to tensions in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback’s marriage to his now-ex-wife Gisele Bundchen, 42. The pair did not publicly comment on the rumor but eventually filed for and finalized their divorce on Oct. 28.
Despite his divorce from the Brazilian supermodel and the Buccaneers’ poor start to the season, however, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, 45, told reporters Friday that he has “zero” regrets about returning to the NFL.
“I returned because I felt like I wanted to compete, and I spoke to the team about it, and they were excited to have me back,” he said, according to ESPN.
When asked if he had regrets about his career moves, Brady told reporters, “Zero, no. Definitely not.”
“I don’t really regret those types of things — I think when I commit to it, I mean it, and I do my best and try to give everything I can to this particular opportunity,” the quarterback explained. “I think the frustrating part is we just haven’t played to the way we’re capable of playing — that’s for a number of different reasons.”
“This is a very important game for us … We’ve got to just win this game, and it’ll take care of that,” Brady added, referring to their game against the Seattle Seahawks in Germany Sunday.
The athlete also recently spoke about his split from Bundchen in an episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast.
Brady talked about “giving all you can to the team” as a professional athlete while going through personal challenges and described the divorce as “a very amicable situation.” He added that he’s focused on two things at the moment — his children and his career.
The exes share two children, son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9. Brady is also a dad to Jack, 15, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
An anonymous source told People that Brady didn’t want to divorce the former Victoria’s Secret Angel. He was reportedly willing to do “whatever it took to make things work” as he “didn’t want the kids to have divorced parents.”
However, Bundchen reportedly felt that she had already given Brady “a lot of opportunities to fix things and he didn’t.” The model also reportedly felt that he was “not as attentive as he should’ve been” in their relationship.
