KEY POINTS

  • Tom Brady “was trying to make things work” near the end of his marriage to Gisele Bundchen, a report says
  • The Brazilian supermodel reportedly felt Brady “wasn’t as attentive as he should’ve been”
  • Bundchen reportedly gave Brady many opportunities to fix things, but he didn’t

Tom Brady hoped to make his marriage to Gisele Bundchen work, but she was done giving him any more chances, according to a report.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, 45, and the Brazilian supermodel, 42, finalized their divorce Friday after months of speculation that they were going through a marital crisis.

Before they decided to part ways, Brady “was trying to make things work, and to make things right,” an unnamed source close to the NFL star told People.

“But at that point, it was a little bit too little, too late,” for Bundchen, the insider added.

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel gave her then-husband “a lot of opportunities to fix things,” but he didn’t, according to the source.

Bundchen felt that Brady “wasn’t as attentive as he should’ve been,” the insider told the outlet, adding, “That’s what [Gisele] wanted: to be heard. And he wasn’t hearing her.”

The source went on to say that the quarterback was “busy following his passion” during the exes’ 13-year marriage, which left Bundchen feeling that “he wasn’t hearing what she was saying.”

“When he’s in the middle of a season, [Brady] does what most NFL players do: live, breathe, eat and sleep football,” the insider told People. “Tom is more like that than anyone.”

However, a second People source denied the claims that Brady wasn’t present in the marriage.

“He was always there for her and the kids. Even during football,” the unnamed source told the outlet. “He’s an anomaly because he’s played for so long. Yes, he worked just like any parent worked, but he always spends a great deal of time with his family.”

Bundchen and Brady’s petition for the dissolution of marriage was filed and finalized Friday in Glades County, Florida, according to documents obtained by People. Their marriage was declared as dissolved and “irretrievably broken” in the docs.

Brady announced his retirement from football on Feb. 1. However, he reversed his decision six weeks later, which reports claimed caused tension in his marriage to Bundchen.

In her interview with Elle magazine for its October issue, weeks before their divorce, Bundchen expressed her concerns over Brady returning to a “very violent” sport and said she wanted him to be more present for their family. However, she acknowledged that it’s also important for him to do what makes him happy.

During the interview, the supermodel said that she’s now focusing on pursuing her personal goals after putting her career on hold for their family.

“I’ve done my part, which is [to] be there for [Tom],” Bundchen told the magazine. “I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams.”

She continued, “I have a huge list of things that I have to do, that I want to do. At 42, I feel more connected with my purpose.”
