Tyus Bowser Comments On Improved Pass Rushing, Facing Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens are headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home field of Acrisure Stadium for Week 14 action, and outside linebacker Tyus Bowser has a lot of thoughts about that matchup as the Ravens get closer to clinching a playoff spot.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, December 7, Bowser noted that last season’s injury-marred defense is feeling healthier than ever and how important the pass rush will be to their success.

“We’re definitely confident in each other that we can go out there and make an impact, whether that’s interceptions, sacks, strips-sacks–whatever the case may be. [We’re] just trying to make a play on the ball, get the ball, help our defense get off the field and get our offense back on the field,” Bowser said via the official transcript.

Baltimore is among the top teams in the NFL in terms of limiting points allowed per game (19.7), total yards allowed (330.5) and just 25 touchdowns allowed thus far.

One thing that the Ravens have relied on heavily this season to get them wins though is forcing turnovers–something that they had great trouble with last season due to injuries suffered by key players Marlon Humphrey and DeShon Elliott who was out for the last five games and suited up in just six games respectively.

They had a turnover differential of minus-11 and a sack count of 34 that ranked 22nd in the NFL while allowing 278.9 yards per game, all of which contributed to them eventually missing out on a playoff spot and a six-game losing streak to close out the season.

Though some of those losses were by a margin of three points or less, it was still a loss on their record.

This season, the Ravens are ranked fifth in sacks per game (37), eighth in interceptions (11), and fifth in forced fumbles (12) all leading up to a record of eight wins and four losses–tied with the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, Baltimore has the top spot due to an undefeated divisional record of two wins.

The Steelers (5-7) may have a losing record and at the bottom of the AFC North, but Bowser is not discounting their capabilities especially when being led by 2022 20th overall pick Kenny Pickett.

“He (Kenny Pickett) looks great. [He’s] definitely a talent… Hopefully, we can hold him to as much as we can, but he’s a great player, and we’re going to respect him,” Bowser noted.

A win over a divisional opponent and a longtime rival will surely do wonders for the Ravens’ momentum after dropping a closely contested game against the Jacksonville Jaguars two weeks ago.
