A New Orleans Uber driver was fatally stabbed last week, allegedly by one of her passengers, and a video of the attack was uploaded to Facebook, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on Dec. 8 at around 3 p.m. local time when police responded to a report of a stabbing in a hotel parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 54-year-old Yolanda Dillion in her vehicle, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Dillion, who was a fiscal analyst at the New Orleans Police Department, worked a second job as an Uber driver. Police were able to work with Uber to determine Dillion was stabbed by a passenger and located the suspect at the hotel.
Brandon Jacobs, 29, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. At the time of the incident, Dillion was providing Jacobs with a ride to the hotel.
When they arrived, Jacobs allegedly repeatedly stabbed the victim before exiting the vehicle. Jacobs also filmed the attack and posted it on his Facebook page, People reports. The social media platform has since removed the video.
Once Jacobs was in custody, authorities say he confessed to stabbing Dillion and revealed that she was a “random” victim.
“He stated that he woke up yesterday morning and decided he was going to kill someone,” Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said during a news conference on Dec. 9.
“We asked him specifically, ‘How did you pick her?’ His response was, ‘I didn’t pick her, Uber picked her.'”
In a statement, the rideshare company said that it was “extremely disturbed by this senseless attack,” adding, “Our thoughts are with Yolanda’s family, and we are reaching out to them to offer condolences and support. We are actively working with the police on their investigation.”
Jail records indicate Jacobs is being held without bail.
