Watch Last Night’s ‘SNL’ Poke Fun At The Jan 6 Committee

“Saturday Night Live” was in full gear in its latest episode, tackling the Jan. 6 committee with tactical precision, leaving viewers questioning the lasting impact of what is likely the group’s final meeting.

The episode was hosted by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who also served as the musical guest. The Texan delivered an empowering monologue that ranged from shaking off her haters to earning her college degree.

Here are some of the notable moments from the third episode of “Saturday Night Live” Season 48.

Cold Open

The episode kicked off with the cast poking fun at the Jan. 6 committee and its members.

Castmember Kenan Thompson took the role of Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., opening the skit by explaining the dire importance of the hearing.

“Today’s session is going to be a little different,” said Thompson, in convincing hair and makeup. “We’re going to summarize our findings, hold a history-making vote, and then, and only then, we all get to have a little treat,” he said while holding a tray of mini-cupcakes.

Castmember Heidi Gardner portrayed politically scorned committee vice president Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.

“This bipartisan committee has presented our case to all Americans,” Gardner said. “Whether you’re a Republican who’s not watching or a Democrat who’s nodding so hard you’re head is falling off. One person is responsible for this insurrection, Donald Trump. And one person will suffer the consequences… me!”

She bridged many of her sobering traits directly to her upbringing under her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The sketch also showed scenes from the previously hidden footage of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, played by Chloe Fineman, and Sarah Sherman, playing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, reacting to the Capitol attack in real-time.

While Pelosi was embattling herself in a conversation with Vice President Mike Pence, the skit showed Schumer similarly entrenched in a conversation with a DoorDash driver.

“Yes, I did change the drop-off location due to some unfortunate treason,” whined Sherman, as Schumer. The skit showed the two Democratic party heads as they were bunkered away during the Capitol attack.

“My order? Twelve dill pickles floating in the juice, and a hot pastrami sandwich with ‘Very. Light. Mustard.’ Did ya hear me!” said Sherman.

The cold open also featured portrayals of Rep. Adam Schiff of California (Michael Longfellow), Rep. Jeremy Raskin of Maryland (Mikey Day), and Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.

James Austin Johnson portrayed Trump. “What even is a vote? It’s just a piece of paper you fold up and put in a hat, a guy shakes it around,” said Johnson

After blaming the death of his “close friend” Apollo Creed on the decrees of former President Barack Obama, Johnson is then handed a Diet Coke and questions, “Is Mike Pence dead yet?”

Megan Thee Stallion Monologue

First-time host Megan Thee Stallion joined an exclusive list when she took on the double duty of both hosting and being the musical guest.

Other celebrities to enjoy this honor include Harry Styles, Donald Glover, Billie Eilish, and most recently Lizzo.

The Houston rapper gave an over three-minute monologue, where she introduced herself as far more than just her rap moniker.

“Most of y’all know me as Megan Thee Stallion, but if you know me then you know I go by more than one name,” said Megan. “We got Tina Snow, the hot girl coach, the H-Town hottie, and if you are one of my many many haters I’m probably ‘ugh, that b—-.'”

After displaying her acting chops with a not-so-convincing British accent, the rapper boasted of her recent graduation from Texas Southern University, all while on a world tour.

The rapper took to Twitter on Friday to share the news that she would be taking a “break” following news that her Los Angeles home was targeted by thieves.

Megan closed her monologue by addressing the removal of her signature sauce from the fast-food chain Popeyes. Take a look below.

Weekend Update

The weekend update duo Colin Jost and Michael Che gave a rundown of the week’s biggest news stories, including Trump’s 14-page response to the Jan. 6 subpoena and Kanye West’s anti-Semitic tweets.

“After the Jan. 6 committee subpoenaed Donald Trump, Trump responded the next day with a 14-page letter. Fourteen pages. O.K., Unabomber,” Jost joked.

“I just know from experience in college, any time I wrote a 14-page paper in one night, I’d also taken a disturbing amount of Adderall,” Jost continued, referencing a recent report of a nationwide Adderall shortage.

Jost also sunk his comedic barbs into Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker, who recently engaged in his first debate with Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Jost teased Walker on his stunt during the debate, where in response to being accused of lying about working with law enforcement, Walker revealed a prop police badge and said, “I am work with many police officers.” Jost added that this was, “yet another sign Herschel Walker is/has brain problems.”

Che then addressed Kanye West’s string of anti-Semitic social media posts this week, informing viewers his comments have been properly addressed. “Kanye West’s anti-Semitic tweets were condemned by the Black Jewish Entertainment Alliance? Just say Lenny Kravitz!” joked Che.

Rapper Jack Harlow will serve as host and musical guest on the next episode of “Saturday Night Live,” which will air on Oct. 29 on NBC.
