The final day to vote in the midterms is Tuesday. Early vote totals have pointed towards record-breaking turnout for the midterms ahead of Election Day.
Over 7.5 million people in 34 states and the District of Columbia have already cast their early ballots. Other states have already beaten previous voting records from the 2020 presidential election.
Georgia has seen the highest record turnout in early voting. As of Saturday morning, Georgia voters made a record-breaking turnout, which concluded with nearly 2.9 million early ballots. This is 6% higher than the final day of early voting in the 2020 presidential election.
“Georgia voters came out in near presidential-level numbers,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “County election directors handled that demand with the utmost professionalism. They navigated a whole host of challenges and executed seamlessly. They deserve our highest praise.”
If current early voter turnout is an indicator, voters may have long wait times on Tuesday.
The opening and closing times for polling sites vary from state to state and in the District of Columbia. In some states, polling hours vary by city or county. Some states allow voters to cast a ballot at closing time, but this provision can vary by jurisdiction. The information below applies to statewide and federal elections.
