Woman Beats Husband To Death With Hammer After Being Asked To Sign Divorce Papers

A 42-year-old woman in Texas allegedly beat her husband to death with a hammer after he asked her to sign the divorce papers.

After the suspect, identified as My Tran, was arrested, she admitted to killing her husband because of “built-up anger” over the status of their marriage.

Police officers responded to an apartment in Sweetgum Trail, Arlington, after a domestic disturbance was reported just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to Dallas News.

Tran reportedly made the 911 call and told dispatchers that she struck her husband in the head with a hammer multiple times inside her husband’s residence.

Investigators from the Arlington Police Department learned that the husband had called Tran to his apartment to sign divorce papers before he was murdered.

Tran, who speaks Vietnamese, told officials with the help of a translater that she was at her husband’s home in the early hours of Tuesday, and at around 4 a.m., she went to her car to retrieve a hammer, detective Spencer Simmons wrote in the arrest affidavit.

After she returned to her husband’s apartment, she debated with herself about whether she should murder her husband or not, the woman told officials.

Tran then admitted using the hammer to strike her husband at least “six to seven times in his head,” the affidavit added.

She then proceeded to call 911, after which responding officers found Tran sitting outside the door, according to WFAA.

The 45-year-old victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was located in the bedroom “bloody with trauma to his head.” The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A hammer was also recovered near his body.

The accused wife said she was fully aware of her actions and accepted responsibility for her husband’s murder.

Tran was charged with murder and booked into the Arlington City Jail.

Officials said the victim’s identity would be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office after his next of kin is notified.
