John Aniston, star of the soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” has died, his family said Monday. He was 89.
Aniston died on Friday, according to a message posted by his daughter, actress Jennifer Aniston. She said her father died “without pain” in a message to her 40.8 million Instagram followers.
“Sweet papa… John Anthony Aniston. You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew. I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace — and without pain.” Jennifer captioned a photo of the pair. “And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now. I’ll love you till the end of time. Don’t forget to visit,” Jennifer Aniston’s post reads.
John Aniston played the crime boss character Victor Kiriakis on “Days of Our Lives.” He took on the role in 1985 and in June received a Daytime Emmys Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jennifer Aniston presented the award to her father. “His career is literally the definition of lifetime achievement,” the “Friends” actress said.
He has starred in over 2,000 episodes of the NBC daytime drama and has also received two Soap Opera Digest Awards.
The Greek-born actor also had roles in “The West Wing,” “Made Men,” “I Spy,” and “Star Trek: Voyager.”
John Aniston graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in theatre. He later served in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence officer.
John Aniston married his second wife Sherry Rooney in 1984. The couple’s son, Alexander, was born in 1989.
